How many guitars do you buy a year? Where do you usually buy them at?

Let's see. This year I've bought an Epiphone Elitist Casino in natural finish and a Hamer Studio P90 goldtop. I bought them both used from TGP members, but they were both in new condition.

I seem to get the itch to aquire a new guitar every couple of years or so. Lately, I have been building my own using Warmoth parts and have been having fun with it. I seem to be on more of an amp thing right now.

I'm limiting myself to one/year. Student life kind of gets you that way. Maybe in a couple years when I graduate college I'll get myself a nice SG or something.

Yeah it's nice when you finally graduate, get a job and have some $$$ to blow. :)

I built my strat and tele from Warmoth parts. They are sweet guitars.

I bought five (wow, that's a lot that I think about it).
But I've since sold two that I didn't bond with. They were both very good guitars but they just didn't capture my fancy.
So I'm down to 1 classical and 2 electrics... but I'm currently in the hunt for a good deal on a Tele. :D

Since January, I've bought 5 but have only kept 4:
an '83 Rickenbacker 360/12WB in Mapleglo (sold)
an '88 Rickenbacker 360/12V64 in Fireglo
an '07 Rickenbacker 360/12C63 in Fireglo
an '06 Rickenbacker 4001C64 in Fireglo
an '07 Hofner 500/1 V63 in Vintage Sunburst.
This year is an anomaly for me. I've never bought more than 2 guitars in any single year that I can recall.

I never owned one 'til this year when I needed an electric 12 string; only one way to go, IMHO. After I bought the '88, I needed a backup for a period and bought the 360/12C63 which ended up being the superior of the two.
As for the bass, I never owned a Rick bass when I originally played from '76 to '82; I always played a P-Bass. I've always been a McCartney freak and could never nail those post '65 Beatles tones with a Fender bass; the 4001C64 took care of that after I switched to flatwounds. The Hofner bass is just something that I always wanted as a bass player and could never find. HUGE tone from that thing - sounds like an upright on steroids!
Funny thing about Rickenbackers is that most people don't realise that they're made in the USA and always have been. Some think they're made in Germany, others England - they've been made in Santa Ana, CA from the get go. A very under-rated guitar company, IMO.

Last year was three, which was a high for one year I think. This year, I traded one of those for a new one, so an even swap doesn't count.
However, the year ain't over yet. AND I did just start a new job.

I picked up a parts Tele this past year, and I haven't bought a new guitar since 2003. All solidbody electrics. No more. Nada. I'm done at 5 gits.

Seeing as how I'm a poor college student it would be about zero haha.

Maybe this should be called a "survey", not a poll
How many guitars / year? I don't buy x guitars per a certain time span and I never have. I have (almost) always based any purchase of gear on my perception of if it does a certain job that any of my other guitars doesn't do or if it might do it better - same applies for amps and my humble use of effects (read OD pedal here). Having said that: on an average I used to buy a new guitar about every other 1 1/2 years, at least when I was gigging more regularly than I am today. :D

Let's see...this year, I've bought two. Sold one of them. That's about average for me...one in, one out.

I think my upper limit will eventually be 5; 61 SG, Am Dlx Strat, LP, my Mexi strat, and who knows, maybe a PRS. I've got a beater Hohner acoustic, and then my Mexi Strat and Epi LP. It'll be a great day when I can afford an American-made guitar.

Ever since I could finally afford some nice equipment, I seem to have developed a pattern of buying a new guitar every 2 years or so (I'm only 45- man, that's gonna add up pretty quick!). I purchased a Martin D-15 in 2001... a Gibson Les Paul Historic (R8) in 2003... a Fender Stratocaster (all nitro 'Thin-Skin') in 2006. I'm eyeballing a nice all-nitro Fender Telecaster next year some time. I guess I'm overdue for a new head or combo...have to work that one in. I feel blessed that I am in a position to own even ONE of the fine instruments I do. You never know how things can change. You'll hear no complaints from me if I ever have to go back to pinching pennies and stop buying new guitars...well, my wife will probably hear some complaining!

This year I bought a NOS Parker as the only new guitar other than that I have traded and sold about ten. I really enjoy trying different guitars. Problem is, right now, I have the bases covered with an EJ strat, AmDlx Tele, Protone Fat Tele and an Eastman archtop. Not sure I would trade any of 'em. I guess it's time to scape up some cash for a humbucker guitar of some kind.
