So, I just got engaged, and in lieu of buying me a watch, my fiance said to me, "What's that guitar you've always wanted?" That would be a Gibson Custom Shop 57 Goldtop. Now, for a purchase this big there is no way I'd buy before playing,t he only problem is, I've only seen a 57 Goldtop once in all my guitar store travels, and I think the shop that had it, has since sold it. So if anyone has some advice on how to try before I buy, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm located on Long Island, NY, so anywhere on the Island, or NYC, or even Jersey or Connecticut would be OK. Thanks in advance everyone!

Cool. Sounds like your future wife is a keeper. :D
I'm sure Rudy's or one of those other shops in NYC would have one.

I'm actually in the city today and may get out early enough to hit Rudy's, what are some of the other shops of note in NYC?

Check out The Music Zoo in Little Neck, NY; it's east of NYC. You'll most likely get your best price from these guys and they carry Historics. I've never bought from them personally, but I know of many who have and have had a great experience.

Thanks man! I saw their name off of Gibson Custom's site and was going to check them out as well.

I bought my 56 Custom Shop Les Paul from MakenMusic and got a great deal from Teddy. That is the only store where I buy my Gibson's from. The guitar I got rocks! I love the P90's in them. Contact Teddy and he can get you a 57 Gold Top Les Paul. I have contacted The Music Zoo in the past and they never have given me a great price on any of their guitars. They have always been over priced, but MakenMusic has always given me great price's and fantastic customer service. That is very important to me when I am making a purchase, when you are talking several thousand dollars for a guitar or amp. Customer service should be prority number1 and MakenMusic does that!:D

Thanks for the tip, I'll actually be in Chicago next week on business, I'll have to make it a priority to get down there at some point and check it out first hand.

Found the perfect one at the Music Zoo in Queens, NY. I called ahead of time to see if they had any, went down today with my fiance and walked out with a 57 Goldtop! Paid a few hundred lower than it listed for at the various online retailers too. They also had a VOS Goldtop, but it wasn't my thing, and a used, from about 2000 Tom Murphy aged one, but that wasn't my style either. Check out my new baby!

Congrats on the new Goldie, moster78! You can't go wrong with an R7; great guitars and at fraction of the cost of an R9.
