I posted this in the other live thread before I saw this one.
I was at the show. It was a blast. I'm hoping the sound was better from your homes than it was at the show...
Highlights:
Robert Randolph & the Family Band = Amazing.
Derek Trucks Band with Susan Tedeschi = Amazing.
Tal Wilkenfeld (bassist for Jeff Beck) = Amazing.
Steve Jordan = Amazing.
Let Downs:
Sound Guys: They were having difficulties with the house sound all night. The first two minutes of Vince Gill weren't even projected over the house speakers. When they were projecting it, the sound was very cluttered and uneven, mushy at times. The sound was REALLY BAD for Alison Krauss and Union Station. Jerry Douglas might as well have not been up there. I especially felt bad for Alison Krauss. The sound guys did not like her at all. She was not happy with her monitor levels and her mic had this continual pop whenever she would sing. She never missed a note though.
I know it's got to be difficult for the sound guys with 30 different people wanting 30 different things, but for $100 a ticket, you have to be more prepared.
The ten minutes they gave to the guy who won the Guitar Center King of the Blues contest: He really struggled. He was under some serious pressure though. They should have had him play on the second stage. Those ten minutes felt like they lasted a lifetime from my spot on the field.
I too was not into McLaughlan. I wasn't too into Willie Nelson either. That's alright, every 11 hour festival has to have at least two pee breaks...
Looking forward to the DVD, November 6th.
