I had to sand a couple mm off of the back of the headstock of two SX SST strat copies to get locking tuners to fit where the string holes would clear the tuner nuts.

The best set of lockers was the Fender ones, really nice with thumbwheels on the bottom, push a rod up to secure the string in the post hole.

The other set works okay but has ninety degree opposing holes in post, pull thight put through other hole, pull tight again and tune. Not as nice looking asthetically as the fenders but half the price. They are Wilkinson Ez Lok locking tuners.

Both SX SST guitars had depth measurements of over 14mm. I used my palm sander and an exacto knife to custom fit each tuner. Very nice job in the end.

Whey is it that I had to sand the headstocks? Are headstocks not uniform in their depth from neck to neck, brand to brand? I was wondering how they got the stock tuners to fit.

What is the standard depth of the general headstock?

Your feedback is appreciated.
