View Full Version : I need a Looper, anyone try the Lo-fi Loop Junkie?
I really want something that is more capable then the Zvex, but it seems to be right up my alley.
Anyway, anyone have any suggestions?
Looking for something that I can put a backing track on, nothing fancy :D

It really depends what you're after, the Loop Junky is a love it or hate it affair and personally I love it! Z Vex's video is a fair representation of how it sounds, if you like that and can live with 20 seconds of loop time and no sound on sound dubbing, give it a try.

I like the Digitech Jamman at the moment.

Boss has a new compact looper with a 16 minute loop capability - RC-2 I think. Should be debuting at NAMM...

Wow, $189 street price and 16 mins of loop. I think that will work just fine :D
When are they supposed to come out?

That Boss looper looks excellent for practice situations. I think I might need one myself. I had the RC20 but found it akward to use live and rather lacking in the tone department, loops were flat and lifeless and the direct guitar also suffered. Great as a writing and practice tool though.
The Loop Junky has a very characteristic tone, with the brick wall compression and warped warble vibrato, it's perfect for live loops because it's bonehead simple to use and really allows the direct guitar and other effects to shine above the loop.
Here's a short clips demonstrating the Loop Junky, hear how well defined and separated the loop is from the direct guitar. Knobs are tweaked to explore to full depth of the vibrato, the pedal will give a much less warped sound if desired... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=361669&songID=2551253

The only issue with the Zvex pedal is the lack of a longer loop. Otherwise I would have bought it long ago. I love the vintage vibe and it has plenty of character. Maybe he can be talked into a custom job :)
If not, maybe this is something one of our members can tackle :D

Would jump at the chance to have my LJ modified for more loop time! Presumably it would mean sacrificing some of the sound quality, which might not be so terrible, considering the 'aged' tone is what makes it special in the first place...
I had two LJs at one time, running them into one another and 'bouncing' takes allowed me to make sound on sound loops. If my live needs were more looper orientated, I would love to use a pair with a sequence switching pedal to bounce the loops.
Be sure to report on the RC2, I'll be curious to hear the verdicts!

I will review it for sure!
I think we should see what is inside the LJ and maybe it can be tweaked. Any volunteers?

I have never had the opportunity to play around with one, but the Maneco Filter Eko 2 looks really cool. It is high on my GAS list.

Anyone had any experience with one?

Here's a clip I recorded yesterday before rehearsal: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=361669&songID=4209961
The chain runs... PGC > Loop Junky > Modified Ibanez AD-80 > SBEQ
I really liked the Boss RC-20XL.
It's really easy to undo a mistake and keep going to make loop.
Plus you can store any loops that you have made.
It's simple and fun toy!
