View Full Version : how do I make an effects loop?

I'm starting a project (new effects board) and I'd like to wire in a loop so I can run effects, or tuner, or bypass the board completely...

any great, relatively easy, ideas?

You'll have to switch off your effects (taking them out of the signal chain entirely that is) on both ends (input and output) of your board, running a cable from input to output for true bypass. I'm sure there are switches available that can do that. Hope someone can fill in some technical details in here.

And here's taking the loop concept just one step further: instead of making a single loop that gets bypassed, why not make two separate loops with the same single switch? You can always use it as a single loop if you want, but having 2 mutually-exclusive loops is more useful than you might think...

For bright, water-clear-lens LEDs (e.g., blue), you'd want to use an 8.2k resistor instead of the 1.5k as pictured.
