Any opinions on the "low watt" amps on the market now...

Vicky 5112 and 5118
Savage Macht 6
Reeves Custom 6

These are my primary candidates...

There are a ton of them out there... who has/has tried some of these and which are your favorites.

I really dig my victoria 50212 for a reference, but I am also a big fan of british el84 flavored amps (ie tophat royales)

Discuss... :D

Before you close the elections, you might want to check out the Valvetrain 205. 5 watts, and based on a Princeton. Point to point hand wired and very reasonable price. Check em out!

I played the 5-watt Bad Cat at the local GC. Wasn't impressed.

I have a Cornford Harlequin that is very impressive. Its an 8 watt 1x12 combo, and now comes with an effects loop, line out, etc. I use it primarily for blues to hard rock and it does it in spades; I highly recommend it. Surprisingly versatile and still quite loud, even at 8 watts. Its really the perfect recording amp as well. All the necessities for studio use, but at a low volume.

Now, if your looking for an amp with a large amount of clean headroom, you may be better off looking elsewhere.

The Palette Minuette is a really nice studio 5 watt. If you get the chance, you should try one out. Shoot him an email, I know he's cool with serious buyers trying them out at home. Here's the one I play with:

I bought a Vicky 10" champ and I love it, but it still cranks.
I use the Bumbox for lower volume and my smokey when the wife is in the room.
There are many small watt amps to try before calling it a day.
Give me a call when you come into Chi-town :)

Actually just got my hands on a brand new in the box Gibson GA-15VRT. I'm selling it (still in packaging) far below new if anyones interest. Great amp...hand wired, point to point, two channels, with triode switch as well. PM me if interest.

Sure are a lot of great little amps out there now. I love my Star Nova, the latest little 5 watter from Mark Sampson, the amp guru. If I didn't have it already, I'd snap up the Victoria in a second.

Have any of you used a Songworks amp?
I have a 1/4watt all tube version that they make, its not a bad little amp.
The preamp and the output tubes are 12AX7s, three position tone switch.
I have a long plate in the preamp section and keep a cheap china made tube in the output.
I'll try to take a few pictures of it and post it.

1/4 watt?! Wow.....man, if that thing sounds anywhere near as good as the ZVex Nano head (1/2 watt), that's got to be hip! I once heard the Nano through a 4x12 Marshall 1960A cabinet and it pratically blew the windows outta the joint. Such a nasty little device and looks like something from a UFO:

Uh Oh. I did it again. I just picked up the new Bad Cat Alley Cat, 7.5 watts, two channel 12" speaker combo. I think they stuffed Stevie Ray inside of it. I'm love all over again! (This is my 2nd Bad Cat. My other one is a Cub IIR).

Got a Star Nova and can't really complain. It's tough though because they just keep coming out with newer GAS inducing low watt amps. Cornford Carrera, Carr Mercury, and even the Suhr Badger with the Power Scaling. My Star Nova is starting to feel threatened hehe.
