Just got back from the Motor City Tone Fest.
Spent some quality time with the guys from Egnater as well as the Rebel. I was excited to get to see it after hearing about it from the NAMM show. It didn't disappoint. It was one of those amps that you didn't want to stop playing.
It was great to hear other guys with different styles play on it as well. I tend to gravitate toward jazz, blues, R&B and even some more country type tones and playing. I had no problem dialing it in for my tastes. My buddy who was with me is a straight-up 80's lead guy and he was able to dial in nice Marshall-type crunch and raunch settings as well.
One of the coolest things about the amp was switching and being able to A/B between EL84's and 6v6's without two different amps and without have to switch tubes and rebias.
Great amp and amazing value for the price. They're going to sell a million of those things.

B,
I have to admit it was probably the most impressive amp there - it's going to be sold only by GC - looks like Bruce will be doing quite well after this little tone monster comes out. I wish the 6V6, EL84 was foot switchable, but I can see this as a small concern as I'm never too far away from my amp in clubs that I play.
At only 20 watts top, I was also impressed with the way you can go from 1 to 20 with just a twirl of one knob - pretty cool. And a price for the head being at or under 500.00 will make this a serious consideration for those looking for an amp to grab a go. It's (Rebel) now on my short list if for no other reason the size and tweakability that it showed me.
Sorry I missed you at the show B - I was there early and I made sure to double check the rooms prior to my leaving just to see if there were any 14 year olds lurking about LOL.
I did see some interesting people at the show - one was Dan Russell - local amp repair guy who was partners with Joe Naylor when they were building amps here in Michigan - he was checking out Wallace amps at the time.
Lots of Marshall clones at the show, which is just not my style, but some powerfull and toneful amps there to be sure. When I got home though, all I seemed talk about to anyone that would listen (that would be my wife) was the Rebel.

MD,
Not sure what time you left. We got there at or around 11:00, which was making pretty good time on a 3+ hr drive.
I was the guy wearing the plaid baseball cap. Me and my friends spent a lot of time in the Egnater room. Largely because one of my friends owns a Mod 50 and is good buds with Bruce, Jeff and Frank, but of course we hung out there because of the amps as well.
I was really impressed with the Rebel. Wow. I loved the pushed blues, R&B, soul tones I could get. I was probably most surprised with the jazz/beebop clean headroom and tones though. I figured it would be able to do some high gain stuff, which isn't at all my style and I would never use, but the Rebel did it, and did it tastefully I might add.
It was cool to A/B the 6v6's vs the EL84's and see how much the 6v6's squash the overall sound. Amazing.
I was also a big fan of the Mod 50 COD module. My buddy has been contemplating what the next module was going to be for him (this will be #6), and I think I have him sold on it. Great Dumble-ish singing lead type tones.
Not sure if you were there or not when he came, but John Difranco had his 6L6 GDS-ODS rig there. First of all, he's an amazing player and I'm glad I got to meet him. He nails the Ford tone and riffs as good if not better than anyone else I've ever heard. I got to play through his rig a bit and it absolutely blew me away. I was in heaven. Then, right before things wound down, Guy, formerly of Guytron amps, arrived with John's bran new, never played new ODS. I was there for its virgin run. This one is EL34 based and has a much different texture. Less polite, more edgy than the 6L6. I'd be happy with either of them though. Both sounded incredible and were extremely fun to play through. However, a 100 watt amp doesn't make much sense for me.

I didn't push open the door to Egnator- just poked my head in Tone Shop (first door) - sorry to say you were there at the same time. Really sorry I missed you.
Next time for sure.

Just got back from the Motor City Tone Fest.
Bummer, this is the first I heard of this fest. After looking it up on the net and putting the address into my GPS I found it was only 9.5 miles from my house, a quick ten minute ride. Wish I'd known ahead of time.

Yeah, it kinda came out of blue for me too, being that you live about 10 minutes away as do I and we hear about it from a guy in Dayton Ohio - guessin somebody could have done a better job advertising, but maybe that was the point.
I called a couple gear heads I know and they were both yeah, I'm going . . . .
Well why didn't they think to call me?
I'm sure there's a hidden message in there, but too dense to suss it out.

I'm sure you're not that big a drag to hang with. ;)
They took names and contact information for next year. I think they anticipate a grander scale, more vendors and more window-shoppers from word-of-mouth.

Well - The Rebel is now shipping to GC.
Still an impressive little grab and go amp.
Price changed a bit since the original showing at the amp show here in the Motor City.
MSR - $599.00 instead of the 500 they thought it would sell for.
Another change and certainly not a bad thing IMHO the EL-84 and 6V6 tubes can be blended as opposed to a switch that would select one or the other.
Cab for it is a 16ohm closed back for $249.00 (I think). not bad. Cute as a button and sounds great - if it wasn't for all my funds being eatin' up in the last two months, I'd have brought it home today.
Though in all honesty - I have the20 watt 6V6 thing covered with a TopHat Club Deluxe, but the blend has me thinking . . .
I wish Bruce Egnater much success with this amp, but I don't think he'll need my well wishes - this is the perfect little amp for all the dads out there trying to hip their kids to the power of valves over SS.
Keep on rockin in the free world.
