So from time to time i do an artist search to find inspiration when i play. Today i found a Blues Guitarist by the name of Albert Collins.

Has anyone heard of him?

If not check him out and tell me what you think...

Ahhhhhh, Mr. Collins......such a very bad cat! Sean, now you need to find Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Johnny "Guitar" Watson so you can hear where AC got his inspiration from!

Recommended Albert Collins listening:

Truckin' with Albert Collins
Cold Snap
Frostbite
Don't Loose Your Cool
Ice Pickin'
Live in Japan
Showdown w/ Johnny Copeland & Robert Cray

....hell, just about anything he did is worth a listen!

Collins used a capo, tuned to an open F minor chord (F-C-F-Ab-C-F) and played with his thumb and index finger which is what gave him such a unique sound.

There's a tuning I haven't tried, sounds interesting, no pun intended.

In effect a tuning bluesmen have used since the early 20s and maybe even earlier. Skip James used open E minor.

And you can't forget Albert King with his Dm tuning! ;)

Don't know why, but I've never tried a minor tuning.
I really suck at slide, so I don't change it up much. Yes, I downloaded your tutorial Tom.

which is a very good read by the way.

Not only does he have one of my favorite guitar tones of all time, he has a great sense of humor lyrically.

The shot whistled right past that woman's head
And killed my hound dog dead!
Ooowwwwwwwweeeeeaaaaaahhhhh

...but I was cool!

Speaking of "discovering" guitarists, I've heard about Joe Bonamassa for a while, but never actually listened to him until a few weeks ago. He's really grown on me since then, and I've picked up a couple of his albums. Definitely worth checking out. His cover of "Tea For One" rocks.
