I've had it for years. It's never been mounted in anything. It looks alot like the one in my 40's Supro Comet except there's only a volume pot. It's also painted brown wrinkle finish. I've never seen a Supro sporting this exact unit and I'd like to make a lapsteel for it. The 3x3 pole pieces are staggered like a Supro, has a hardwired green cotton cord.

Any links or photos would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, NG.

Sure looks like a lap steel TP / pup unit - could be Supro, Oahu or Silvertone. I've checked my books but haven't found a model with the exact same look but very very similar (two knobs that is).

I agree with Tom; it's either a Supro or Valco judging from the design. My guess is that it's off a student model steel due to the single control knob.

Thanks gentlemen, I appreciate your input. So if I wanted to build a lapsteel to hold it, I don't need to make the shape adhear to it's OEM shape? I mean no exquisite student lapsteels will be shamed. I'm thinking a shape along the lines of a New Yorker [well not the D'Angelico versh] but with carbon fiber or some anodized Titanium thrown in for that 21st century look. We'll have to see what the exotic lumber yard issues forth. I just don't want it to resemble a friggin tongue depressor when I'm done.
