I'm in complete agreeance with you, man. But, we're starting to get into a completely different musical era now so there'll be more of these coming in the future. I think Grand Master Flash's induction last year kind of opened the door for what's about to come.
Honestly, I believe it's more about who fattened the pockets of the R.I.A.A. that whether or not they were a legitimate influence on the history of Rock & Roll. If you pore over the past honorees you'll see descrepencies there as well. Personally, I think it's more akin to winning "home coming queen" than anything else; much like the Grammys.

Completely absurd, there is no way that she can be considered rock and roll. If this is what rock and roll has come to, it is in bad shape.

Exactly, PeeWee! The Grammies are not about the "best" records or artists but about who generated the largest turnover / profit. Just too bad the R & R HOF is going in that direction and absolutely losing its credibility that way.

IMO opinion it's never been anything more then a commercial enterprise, period. They certainly won't get any money from me as I have no intention what so ever of ever walking through their "hallowed halls".

Sorry - didn't know they had such a bad reputation :( By "credibilty" I meant referring themselves to "Rock 'n Roll" (whatever that is, BTW) :D

I'm not sure there'll ever be a consensus on a definition for Rock N Roll, and any such attempt to create one by a commercial entity such as the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame would be so heavily ridiculed it would be useless to try.
Is Rock N Roll a certain formula requiring specific instruments, incorporating a specific series of themes and communicated using a specific set of rules? Or... Is Rock N Roll more of an idea in the absence of rules? A counter-cultural response to popular musical ideologies? A revolutionary influence, if you will, meant to stimulate a certain response whether that be active or completely passive and apathetic. In other words, is Rock N Roll a biting-of-the-thumb to what is considered business as usual in the music industry?
If indeed you would consider the second as a better "definition" or literally an absence of definition for Rock N Roll, then it seems rational that some of the perhaps not-so-Rock inductees have been recognized.
Much the same, according to that identification, there are countless "Rock" bands that should never be considered in that category. I could start naming them, but we all know who I'm talking about.

Just to add to my last comment, to much music such as pop and several other types are now commonly referred to as "Rock" when in fact they have little or nothing in common with rock & roll. I remember a time back in the 40's, 50's & early 60's when pop stars like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, etc wouldn't be caught dead on the same stage with any of the early rock & roll groups. They only started recognizing them as ligitimate musicians when pop record sales fell through the floor and rock groups were becoming overnight successes. Just because you've got an electric guitar in the band doesn't mean you're a rock group, nor does it qualify you to be in the R&R HOF. I remember before the HOF was built there was a lot of debate about whether it should be built in Cleveland or Detroit, and although I and many others felt it belonged in Detroit I'm now glad they put it in Cleveland because quite honestly I find it has turned out to be little more then an embarrassment. :(
