Hi guys, I just built a double neck, bass/guitar, the top being a Peavey 4 string with 3 pots and the bottom being a Dean 6 string with 2 pots and a 3 way switch and having 2 input jacks. I placed the bass controls up in the upper section and the guitar controls down as per the original guitar and added a 3 way switch in the upper control pocket as neck selector. I had no idea how to wire this switch, so I let the guitar shop do the reconnecting of the pickups and the new switch. I want to switch one way for bass, the other for guitar and in the middle for both and the shop is having trouble getting this done. Has anyone here done anything like this and/or have a suggestion? Any help will be appreciated.

I think if you wire it up just as you would a two pickup configuration (Gibson style) it should work just fine.

thanks for the input. are you saying wire both of the output jacks to the neck selector switch and then to the pots the jacks were originally connected to? as I said, I'm dumb as dirt as to switch wiring.

Input jacks? You mean output, right? You have two of them? What for? Does your bass part have a pickup selector?

If you have two output jacks (one for guitar, one for bass) you don't need a selector switch, just use the volume controls to turn on/off the respective electronics for the desired neck.

Boogieman, you're right, of course, but I want the switch.
And to sliding-tom, I want to use a bass amp for bass efect and a guitar amp for guitar effects

chowlee, I'm a bit confused now - if you have a dedicated output for each of your necks so you can route them to two different amps, what's the neck selector switch supposed to do?

Sorry, been gone for a while. As I said in the beginning, I'm not that wise as far re. electronics. I made this instrument very, I think, compact, 14 1/2" wide, to keep down weight. The last double I had played nicely but was wide as a barn. The switch is to turn on or off one or the other if I'm not using both necks in the same song. I can't be adjusting volumes while I'm playing. The problem is that I got lazy and let the guitar shop resolder the pickups back and even though I left a little color on the wires as I snipped them, the shop somehow got lost while he was into it and then didn't really know $hit from shinola. He's taken the guitar to a friend this weekend and is going to have this finished come Tuesday or have it as you guys are suggesting. Then I'll figure out how to wire the switch.

A 3-way toggle switch that just kills the signal of either one or the other output jacks is all you're looking for. For example an NKK M2013LL1G01-RO

Just leave everything as is and add wires from the signal lug of each output jack to the outside lugs of the switch (it must be an "ON - OFF - ON" type spdt switch). The middle lug of the switch gets wired to ground.

the problem is that I want both on if it's it's in the middle. I got it back yesterday and switched one way
& in the middle I had both necks & the other , only the guitar. I can't shut out the guitar. Works if that
the best I can get.

The switch I referred to is a 3-way switch. The wiring diagram I drew would shut off either the guitar or the bass in up or down and leave both on in the middle.

I apreciate all the help, skreddy. I'm finally playing "sweet thang" and really having fun. I had two
guitar repair shop try your method and neither could make it work. Right now, switched one and the
middle, the bass is on. Switched the other way, the bass is off. The guitar is always on. I can live with that.
