i received a Skreddy Top Fuel from Marc a few weeks ago. this pedal is the latest in a looooong line of pedals i have tried to be my "more" pedal. i use an extremely minimal setup live (guitar>>"more">>volume pedal>>amp)...anyway, i've gone through clean boosts (zvex sho, etc.), OD's (barber LTD, Timmy, crowther hotcake, etc.), fuzzes (zvex fuzz factory, euthymia crucible, various shades of big muff), and while many of these pedals were great sounding, they weren't EXACTLY what i was looking for...so now for the Top Fuel...
on first plug-in, i thought it sounded great. fuzzy, but crystal clear (sounds paradoxical, i know)...all playing dynamics and pick attack are totally preserved. it doesn't really clean up much when rolling back the guitar volume, which surprises me considering how uncompressed the pedal sounds/feels, but the full-on sound is so good, i don't really care...
but the real test came when i tried it with my band. my rhythm section is loud and powerful. many a pedal that seemed amazing when playing alone got tossed on the reject pile when it got used with the band...playing my Jerry Jones (with lipsticks, naturally) through my THD Flexi 50, the Top Fuel really, really impressed me. it has a HUGE volume boost available, & the mid-emphasis of the voicing helps it cut through for solos and melodies. at high gain/volume settings, it causes extremely controllable/musical feedback. i actually got more of a Fripp vibe from the pedal, as opposed to Gilmour, but that may very well have more to do with my own tastes than the pedal's design...
over all, i'm pleased with the Top Fuel. it IS my "more" pedal. at least for now :p
