My 13yo kid has taken an interest in guitar, so I've signed him with a local studio that does an "academy of rock". I'm thinking 3-4months of lessons and then doing the academy thing will get him a taste.
I've been playing for over 30 years, and as I sat down to think about it, I have no idea how to teach someone to play - that and the fact he's 13 and I'm his dad, pretty much means that he thinks I don't know shizzle, ya know, so I signed him up for the lessons.
As for gear, I'm going to give him my parts-o-tele (turser neck, unknown solid body, lollar pups, CTS pots, unknown hardware) and i think i'll buy him a pocket pod. Would like him to focus on playing BEFORE he develops an addiction to gear :)
Also, the kid is a lefty - but wants to play righty. He tells me it feels more natural to him because he's spent so much time with Guitar Hero, so I'm anxious to see how that goes. I think I'll teach him a couple of open chords and take him down to the store and make him try both.
Any of you guys got kids that play?
