No, this isn't one of those "do I need a buffer?" "what is a buffer?" "my floor needs a buffer!" type of threads... :p

Just wondering if anyone has one of those Axess BS2's kicking around that they wouldn't mind selling me?

... OR!

Does anyone know of a BETTER one? Anyone building any? (Here's looking at you, BJ... :D)

Roar!

I know that Bjorn does build pedals with buffers, but I have yet to experience one.

I own the Antelope Morning Dew which is a very well made buffer and EQ pedal. I am most impressed with the quality build and the way the buffer interacts and does its job without me even realizing it is on - (that is until I turn it off). The EQ is fantastic and really adds to my tonal palette.

Worthy of some consideration and whole heartedly recommended (by me!).

That is not a bad reccomendation at all, thanks Enjoyer!

I shall look into it with thought - I like where you're head is at. :)

I have the BS-2 and MDEQ - both are very good units, IMO. Each has it's own merits (BS-2, you get the splitter/tuner outs and it's small size - MDEQ obviously has the EQ section) - if I needed only one it would definitely be the MDEQ. It's a fantastic pedal for a multitude of uses. Indespensable for me now...

Thanks erksin! My mind is made up - I will do the MDEQ!

I already have a TM on my Looper, so a split for a tuner has only limited use for me. :)

Jono -

Did you wind up scoring an MDEQ? I just saw a post somewhere by Brian that he was only going to make 50 more...

Yeah, all is well! I am 9th on the list for one of the new ones - he is just getting the pedal cases together. Nifty!

... and yes, its true - he will only do 50 more. Definitely something to get in on, whilst the getting is good! I am almost considering making my order a double, and hanging onto it... I think there might be quite the feeding frenzy on these pedals, give or take a year.

Way Huge, anyone?

Cool - just didn't want you to miss out if you hadn't called him yet!

Keep us posted!

Hi,

Ah yes I have built two models that had buffered bypass the Little Red Trebler and the Baby Pink Booster and they were initially thought to go first and last in a pedalboardsystem.
Both buffers ( similar in these models almost the same in fact) were set for a gain of 1,00 at nominal load of 47K Ohms- 47 K Ohms would muffle a guitar quite a bit. This buffer was designed to drive typical guitar cables while not George L's or other coax as those would have negliable loading.
Both models are outof production for now while they may still be around and also with that the written material around the designs

Flat response can be set if system is analyzed.

Ah, I keep a BOSS or similar around for testing and have done so for many years.
Some of the hidden qualities of buffered pedals like for instance BOSS CE-2 or GE-7 is that they in bypass still utilize the internal noise reduction system and that chops off some highend- this can be annoying but sometimes useful.
The CE-2 would be outof phase which can be used in bypass aswell to correct phase angle of say a Twin Reverb.
I mention this as funnily enough I used the BOSS CE-2 more in bypass than on when I had one.

I also wrote an article on conventional buffers and what can happen if gain is less than 1 and I believe that may still be at www.custom-sounds.com

Better is relative, a buffer is needed if there is loading to restore highs.
One could manipulate both the drive capability aswell as the input load on source to equalize the 'ghost components created in the system.
No, I don't make such a thing at the moment

Hm, and here I was getting ready to get myself one of those MDEQ's and they are going outof time?

Bjorn,
Don't hesitate on the Morning Dew.
I have one (as well as a couple of your masterpieces, at the moment - more to come, I predict)and I am confident that you will appreciate the MD.
Contact Brian and I am sure he will hook you up immediately.
He is one of the good guys (much like you in this regard - "not many of us left";) ).

With respect and all the very, very best,

Hello all,
My first official post, just thought I would share my BJF buffer experience.

I use a LRT close to front and a BPB at the end and they definately help my signal make it thru with the clarity I was hoping for. With alot of pedals in my chain, it has made a huge differnece in bettering my sound quality ...as have all of BJ's pedals.;).

The BPB stays on all the time, without it everything is duller. The LRT goes great with alot of OD's and fuzzes I have tried it with, and stand well on its own for a slightly more cutting thru mix sound.

Any good buffer at the end of a long chain seems to be good to have.:)
