I just noticed that there are 531 members (1 Active).

Felt the need to keep my 'Active' status, hence the post.

Toady is June 24th, 2010 (might as well add the year - it may be 2012 before anybody else posts) this post has been read or at least opened over 350 times, yet nothing new.
Interesting . . . . . well, no not really, but.

How much does it cost to maintain a site that no one uses?

Hi Melvin - great to see you still (or again?) around here. I got notified about your new post on the shameless glamour shot thread by email and immediately wanted to say hello - guess what happened? I had forgotten my log-in password :D As soon as I remembered it, my PC went downhill. Just got it back yesterday so here I am.:)

Yep . . . Had the same thing happen to me and it took a week or so before I found it.
Nice to see/hear from you. Hope all is well on your side of the pond.

Still gigging I hope - you were last doing acoustic if I remember correctly? Did you ever find the right amp for what you're doing or have you moved on from there.

Tom,
You fell off the face of the earth again didn't you!? What was it Douglas Adams said: Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Hi Melvin,
I guess I pretty much fell off the face of the "virtual" world. I have had several PC crahes during the last year and a half (all of them hardware based) and during the long periods to find the problem and fix it (a cousin of mine does this) I found out that I actually have a couple of guitars that are fun to play and that there is lots of music still to be learned. :D And: it's fun learning something new! :)

Happy New Year everybody! :)

Thanks Tom - to you and yours as well.

Sat this one out (no gigs) and as much as I would have liked to see The Romantics and Gin Blossoms for free . . . didn't make that either - Alas, that was so last year.

Doing well Tom, been a busy summer for the band and I see no let up for the fall . . . sadly, we are still in the 'play more for less' mode, but we're playin'.
How's everything on your side of the pond? Still doing the acoustic thing or is the band back in full swing?

The band I had been in for around 35 years came to its end last year, due to the death of our drummer in November 2009 and severe health problems of our frontman/singer/harpplayer.
Sad, but I have been much younger than the other members when I joined the band in '74/'75 - I knew all along that I'd be left behind so to speak some day.:D
The acoustic "band" is no longer anymore - I called it quits because I was fed up with starting all over every time we held rehearsals - the singer/guitarist is so much used to playing by himself, he didn't seem to be capable of switching into team playing mode. Also he's russian with hardly a grasp of the german or english language - makes communication a real pita. I didn't feel like putting any more time into something that would most probably never really get off the ground.
Now I have my old farts classic rock band that meets for rehearsal once a week and grabs a gig here and there if something comes along. Nice guys that I enjoy being around and an outlet for my desire to play electric at a decent volume.
I enjoy playing acoustic a lot by myself - I'm just such a piss-poor singer:D

Got a nice new guitar this March:

Edit: forgot to mention that I'm teaching a lot of guitar these days...

Not so different you and I Tom . . . .
Perhaps bassackwards, but similar. I was in a band that practiced weekly for about 10 years and gigged twice, they were all (old farts) high school buddies of mine. The band broke up for 2 years and unfortunately the drummer passed away. We did a memorial and every band that he had played with showed up for a set - (long night - I was in three of' em). Our old band reformed after that, but I've decided to sit out this time.

I'll be the one that disappears from the band I've been in since the early 80's - they're all far younger than I, but I can still hump an amp when needed, so . . . . but they do all speak perfect English, so we got that going for us.

I like the Reso - I've never warmed up to them, but if you ever heard my slide playing you'd know why.

Be well

Tom,
Thanks for the LP Forum link - I've signed up and they accepted me (fools) so if not posting, I'll most certainly be lurking about.

That's great, by the way, that you're teaching - I'm seriously considering taking lessons. Been really stuck lately playing in the same comfortable positions on the neck and really need to be challenged.:o

Maybe I'll learn some slide - nah
I'll paraphrase a quote from Sonny Landreth when asked if ever played guitar without a slide . . . "No? Robben Ford pretty much has that covered."
I have neither covered, but I'll still leave it to those have have a far better grasp on it.

Never too late for anything, Melvin! :) Take a look around uklpf - there's a lot of fun stuff there and also some more serious matter. Don't forget to introduce yourself so that nobody takes you for just some lurker, though.:D
