View Full Version : How About Some New Memeber Levels?

Lifted from this thread.

http://theguitarhub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370

How about a scheme that doesn't name names? While I don't care for the KH thing, others might not like the BB King moniker. It doesn't account for musical tastes.

How about running up through the Fender amp line? Start out as a Champ and move up from there. Maybe in the tweed line.

or

How about:
New Member
Member
Senior Member
Classic Member
Vintage Member

Just tossin' out ideas.

A few years ago I got wacky with these on the Plexi Palace BBS.

Some systems allow for assigning these to specific members. That would be a cool thing for the "owners" of forums.

What do you folks think? Let's hear your comments and suggestions.

Like I said: I don't want to be a K.H. or S.V. or be compared to any other guitar player, especially if I don't have anything to do with what they play or maybe don't even like 'em. Do we need member levels anyway? If so, there's been some nice suggestions, like the Fender amp line. But I can hear the Marshall afficionados shouting: "I don't want to be a Deluxe!" :D
So the "New Member" to "Vintage Member" is a good idea IMO.

How about using the different "stages" of playing? You could start as a "basement player" and move up to "guitar hero" status with other steps along the way such as "weekend warrior", "road dog", etc . Just an idea that needs more thought...........

I think all that's needed is just one additional member designation: "dontwannabe" :p

Seriously guys, I really don't understand why this is such a sensitive issue.

I'll apply for "dontwannabe". I'm not picky about this stuff, but when I joined, it took me a while to figure out those designations that are being used now, like ( I guess all new members). It puzzled me. Why don't we just drop it at all? I'd rather have the avatar function working. :)

Well, the fact of the matter is that not all members are going to agree across the board on any suggestions. If folks want change, then something is going to have to have at least a 2/3 majority before it even makes sense to change anything at all. If that can't be acheived, then there's no use in grousing about the current system - just go with it.

Lord Valve opened this can. :D

I'm not too bothered. After all, I still read and post here.

I will note that I'm not a fan of KH though in any way, shape, or form. Not particularly a fan of the next 2 levels either.

But it's no biggie. I just started this thread as it was suggested by the admin.

Um, why not just activate the custom title feature then?
I'm not going to be a stinker about it, but I would be happy with a change in the current title system yes.

Don't matter much to me - though I do like the idea of setting a custom one for myself.

Hi

Dashiel Hammet?, yes great writer. Who the .......is Kirk Hammet anyway?
Yes I I do enjoy playing bass, while nobody would call me a bassplayer.

OK I'll get to the point : it's not all that, but merely a fun thing if you will.

I would think though that some thought was put into this to make people post to get past your non favourite shredder post status and thatthe intent was just a fun one.

Hm, ikf you get to be BB King does that mean you post one post a couple of times albeit a so damn good one no one arguees?

I saw BB at Circus in Stockholm and he played one note that haunted me for days and I even woke up that nightto get it out so that I could sleep but still.

Oh yea, I think it all is for fun and for some ironi and so while I would not mind a custom title let's laugh and have fun

Just a thought
BJ

Well, we are laughing and having fun. See my amp posts for good examples. Still, I don't like most of the levels I've seen thusfar. If I move past KH to Yngwie or Steve Vai, I'm still labeled a guitarist I'm not a big fan of.

To be honest, I really don't care to see anybody else's name associated with mine.

It is your board guys and we will change it if you guys want it changed.

Can you give us some choices?
Themes?

Lets narrow it down to the top 5, take it to a vote and it will be done.

The custom feature is not going to be activated for numerous reasons :)

We have a couple other builders moving their forums over here and we need to keep the levels neutral.

All the best,
Jason

right its either got to be fun or informative or its a waste of space :p

You already have post count tally so either allow a custom tag so people can express themselves a little or drop it and allow avatars.

Doesn't seem as though there's a whole lotta interest one way or another, does there? Seems like a lot of energy wasted on something that's not getting any response. Screw it - leave it be & forget it was ever mentioned.

I don't pay attention to post count, avatars, or member levels. Content, spelling, punctuation, and grammar... those are my pet peeves.

It's really slow here. I'm afraid if I started a poll to vote, we'd get 4 votes on 5 different schemes.

I'd have to agree with you, Leftee. I'm thinking that most of the hits on this threat are from non-members. Only a small handful of the active membership have even posted on this subject.
