For those who have ever seen Barry play slide you will recognize the slides, for those who haven't seen Barry play slide I am sorry :D

The Nunwell Slide is a handmade blown glass slide, each is different and they wiegh about 2 lbs a peice LOL

The tone is to die for and the fit is as good as it gets since they ask for measurements.

If you want one let me know!

Thanks to Dean and Barry for introducing me to these:

By the way- Nunwells are truly wonderful slides, and I use mine regularly, but I have also really been enjoying the slides made for me at Diamondbottlenecks.com

They have a great line and are very accomodating. Ian is a pleasure to deal with and a good friend. I was using my open-ended Diamond hand-blown slide throughout the Chicago Tonefest.
Also, my friend Luther at www.bigheartslide.com makes some awesome ceramic slides, and the only officially licensed Robert Johnson slide, which is a mondo heavy solid bronze wonder if you're into 'heavy metal'.
You really can't go wrong with any of these.
They are all great, and made by the nicest people on the planet.

Ian got me an absolutely beautiful and wonderfully functional slide at Diamondbottlenecks.com.

+1 on the Moonshine slides. They're very warm and having the inside un-glazed helps with control.

Remember...KEEP YOUR PADDLE DOWN!!!...;)

Hey Rhino!
Nice to see you here!
How's the slide playing coming along bro?

Doing well...thank you for asking! Slide playing isn't coming along as fast as I'd like, but due mostly to not practicing enough! :( Always something to do...work...gig...rehearse...wife...family...Aaarg h! :D

How are you? I won't be at ToneFest, but had a chance to spend some time with Patrick, Dean, Nick, and Kent a couple of weeks ago when I was in the area on business. It wasn't the same, of course...but always good to see everyone.

I have a little collection of slides, with everything from the Moonshine and Mudslides to heavy brass and glass. Each one sounds different, really.

When I need speed, a light weight small Dunlop glass tube is perfect. For something thick, slow and loud, nothing beats big brass. I have a Dunlop White Lightning that they no longer make, and it's really cool too.

Generally, when I play mostly down by the nut, heavier slides are better. If the part stays up around the 12th fret and above, lighter slides are better.

My handicap is that I can only use a slide on my middle finger. I've tried the ring finger and pinky, but I just can't manage it. Obviously, it limits what I can play, but it also limits my slide selection as it's hard sometimes to find one that will fit my middle finger. When I find one that does, I almost always buy it right away.

I was just watching the Chicago U2 DVD last night. Being the slide expert that I am, I quickly noticed that Edge was using a slide that resembled a regular ring, so he could still play regularly, and switch to sliding quickly.

So I'm not a slide expert at all... :D

What is it?

There are several devices like that on the market.
Will Ray of the Hellecasters has used slide rings for years. There are a few companies that make them- I've seen them at the NAMM shows. There is also a device called a Jet Slide that a buddy of mine uses that he likes a lot, it swings around out of the way when you dont need it- like a 'half'slide'.
For me, its all or nothing. I like the weight and heft and heavy tone that a full bottleneck tube gives.

Nothing wrong with those. That's what Duane used and I think Derek uses them too. The Nunwell's are nice, but they are about 3 times as heavy. You can get alot of fret chatter if you're not careful (of course my slide playing sucks so I'd get that with any slide).

Those look great, although if I got pulled over and the cop saw that on my dash...I'd be willing to bet he'd want to search my car. ;)

before I found the bottles I had been trying to play slide with a brass slide someone gave me and it was way out of control! compared to these it felt like it weighed five pounds.

Does anyone else prefer a brass slide... I have a brass dunlop and it just has a lot more attitude and grind than glass... maybe I need to try one of these... hmmm....

Brass, anyone?

Yes, Sir - here! I prefer brass for its raunchier tone. I find myself going back to "The Rockslide" again and again and I have a large collection of slides! - check 'em out, there's a website.
As for glass, nothing beats a homemade bottleneck, the only commercial slides that do it for me are lead crystal.

Yes, I can second that motion! In fact, besides the Nunwells I found (or shall I say Barry did actually) a Big Heart glass slide in an apricot color with white stripes all over it--we call it the "Creme Sickle" model after those old popsicles we used to eat in the summertime remember those? Barry came walking by the Custom Sounds booth and asked me to stick my pinky out for him to test its fit and hanging upside down it was PERFECT. I also like the brass Rock Slides too. That said the Nunwells (and this particular BigHeart) are great sounding slides!

Best,
Dean
