What a night!
The weather was perfect and I finally got a chance to see a show at the new venue on the lake front of Chicago. The new venue is located east of Soldier Field and the stage faces east, so as the sun sets you have the skyline as a beautiful backdrop to the stage. What a sight regardless of whose playing. If you are in town, get over there and check it out. You can also see every show for free from the beach.
I went to the show with Teddy and his GF Kate.
Due to traffic we got to the venue right as Drive-By Truckers were coming on. Scotty and Elwood greated us backstage and promptly took us to Rich's guitar pit. If I were a smart man I would be making this post from Mexico with all of his gear :D Just Kidding Rich!
I think he needs a few more guitars, no pics sorry guys I was way too distracted. Drive by was playing and here I was on stage going through an inventory of guitars that were just unreal.
So we had some dinner and went out to watch Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Man does this guy burn. I had only seen him on the Crossroads DVD and some awards shows, so I was really excited. It is just too bad his song selection was terrible. Nevertheless, he ripped and the crowd really dug him.
The Crowes came on about 9pm, they could only play a 2 hour set due to curfew laws. Mark sounded amazing he had a couple Roccaforte Amps, a ProAnalog Power Driver, a treble booster and a TTE. Scotty said there were 5 TTE's on stage. Mark had his amps set at 4 and his tone was just awesome. He ran an LP, Tele, First Act, Supro, Strat and a 335 through it and they all sounded great. He really holds the band together. Rich has the gear, Mark has the tone and chops IMO :)
We went backstage after the show, said our goodbyes and called it a night!
Thank you so much Scotty for a wonderful night!
