Hi,

Have you found certain sound go better or easier with certain speakers?
What's your speaker choice?

I like either Celestion Blues or the G12-65 Celestion model speakers the best. For Jazz I like old Altec 417-C models. However, if in a pinch I can substitute the G12-65 just fine in lieu of the Altec & sound pretty much the same. Maybe your touch is just as important when playing jazz guitar (versus Rock) where things are much more ah, say, frisky?:D

I had vintaqe ( and virtually unplayed) GT series celestion speakers from it's original 1984 marshall straight cabinet and I thought they were great with my 67 plexi head. Then, I took some advice from Mark Stephenson to install Eminence speakers and WOW what a difference. I was sold on a Red Fang/ Wizard combo with my 4x12 cab based on the recommendation of the Chief Engineer at Eminence. Even my dad could tell and I quote" night and day" improvement with all pedals and/or amp settings. The Eminence are basically less colored, tighter bottom, truer reproduction, less harshness highs.

Let's breathe some new life into this thread:
Guess, I'm a rare bird among guitar players, since I prefer 10" speakers. I like their punch and breakup characteristics at moderate volumes. And I prefer AlNiCos over ceramics. I recently had to replace a blown speaker in my Fender CVR and instead of replacing only the blown one I upgraded to Jensen P 10Qs.
Although they are not really played in yet, I like them very much so far.
Having said all that - I love my DRRI with the stock Eminence 12" - go figure! ;)
