Ummm, sorry that I haven't posted in 15 days:eek:

Seriously, I think that email went out to everyone just as a reminder. I know from adminning on a couple of other boards that spammers create lots of bogus accounts, and that kind of cruft can build up in the database putting unnecessary load on it - a reasonable action (imperfect, granted) is to purge accounts that appear to not be used.

we had to clean out a ton of spam today and it started to build the second we completed the purge. It puts a drain on the system and the only way to alert members is to send out a notice to everyone because as you can tell not everyone visits on a regular basis. Membership ID's are important to people so if a few regular members were inconvenienced we apologize!

The goal is to delete the spam accounts and without a ton of labor there is no way to decipher between a real member ID that is unused and a spamBOT.
