I screwed up and let my wife find out about my secret gear fund. She gave me the "we need it to pay bills" routine. There goes my new guitar. Whats more important, food or a new guitar?

They say you can go two weeks without eating. I can't go two days without playing my guitar. :p
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Oh well, I gladly gave it up. I have too many guitars anyway.

While I completely understand the need for new gear... if I may offer some advice... it is never a good idea to have a SECRET fund saving for something. Not good for the household...
That said, having a gear fund is completely reasonable. If you are saving up for something new or just to be able to reward yourself for some hard work... that shouldn't be a problem.
I have my own savings that I regularly put money towards... my wife knows about it and she can't really say much to what I spend that on... now if I go run a credit card for a new guitar... that's a different story (yes, I have run through this drill too)
My current savings fund is for my Vegas trip in two weeks... with a little luck I can come home with a healthy gear fund and some good memories.
Just my $0.02

Bad luck, tonefinger, but: if you have a secret gear fund what'll you do as soon as you made a purchase with it? Secretly slip it into the house? Might work with a pedal or smaller stuff but can't hide a new amp or guitar, can you? :( And you may feel guilty, then.
Bills have to be paid - I'd feel uncomfortable not being able to do so and have a secret fund for gear - don't get me wrong - I'm not criticizing you. Better start a fund that your wife knows about and one day you can proudly carry that new Gibson or Fender or whatever it is you crave into the house and enjoy it and share your joy with your wife. :)

Well , obviously it's not that "secret". I really don't hide anything from the wife. I suppose I really can't complain, I do have a new amp on order. I always end up giving everything to her in the end. Just venting.
